5 for Five - {Week 3} & GIVEAWAY Announcement

We're on Week 3 for 5 for Five with Jenn & Jessica!

I did TERRIBLE last week. Oh gee.. (Red goals = not met, green goals = met)

1. Walk once a day for 15 minutes.
I didn't walk once a day BUT I did walk for 2 1/2 hours one day! Therefore, I'm saying this was accomplished!

2. Organize MOST of my Pinterest boards.
Not even attempted...

3. Research things about mutual funds so I know what I want to sign up for when I go meet with an analyst.
Yes! Talked to my new friend Esther and figured out some things :)

4. Create at LEAST 5 different new products for my TPT store.
I created 3! Close... yet so far away.

5. Finish my school work through November 11th.
Almost... have two more assignments that I'm working on today!

Soo.. another fail. 2 out of 5. This week WILL be better.

1. Call apartments to figure out availability for when we move.
Since we're moving in 18 days (YAY!), I'm going to call around for apartment availability so we know what's what when we get down there!

2. Call all the schools up here to ask about removal from sub list.
I'm on roughly 9 districts sub lists, so I need to call around and ask to be removed since I obviously won't be subbing for schools in Ohio when we're in Alabama.

3. Get ALL assignments done for one of the Masters classes.
One of my classes only has 3 more assignments due to "finish" the class. SO, I'm going to work on these assignments this week to knock the class out of the picture.

4. Organize my hodge-podge Education Pinterest board.
Baby steps. I have my hodge-podge Education board with close to 2,000 pins that are just all mixed together.. all subjects, classroom management, teacher resources, etc. So, organize it and get it done!

5. Move things from the Green Room to the storage unit.
I HAVE to start moving things so I can make room for stuff that I haven't packed yet.

What are your goals? Go link up!

Tomorrow is the first day of my 500 Follower Giveaway! Make sure you come on by to check it out - there are 45 different things up for grabs. WOOHOO! The giveaway goes LIVE at 12:01 AM tonight!

Have a good day, y'all!

ABCs of Miss V - {DADDY}

Today's post is going to be one of the hardest posts I will ever write. To say that I was not crying throughout writing it would be a lie. But, I wanted to write about it because it's an important subject to me. Because this series is about getting to know me, I think that this is pretty substantial to include when you get to know someone - their past and how it has helped someone get to where they are.

On January 21st, 2010, my father passed away at the age of 47 years old. It was completely unexpected, nor was there anything we could do about it.

January 16th, my father had a heart attack (his 5th heart attack to date) and we thought it would be a "routine stint process" when he went into the hospital this time around. Because this was the weekend, we spent time together in his hospital room while waiting for him to go into surgery on Monday, the 18th.

January 18th - morning. I went back to school in the morning to attend my classes I had that day. I missed Daddy's call so he left me a message saying he was going into the room here soon (he hoped) and that he was tired of waiting around and that he was bored and that he loved me. His typical phone calls that he does when he's bored. No big deal.

January 18th - evening. I was called and told to come home, that my Daddy was not doing good. What? I thought this was just a simple procedure like always and that he would come out like he always had. Nope.

January 19th - morning. We went to the hospital to see him - non-responsive, not awake, not able to talk, nothing. It was like he was sleeping. I hated it. But, at 19 years old, you don't think of your father passing away so I was hopeful he was going to come out. I mean, who wouldn't be hopeful? This was just another procedure that he had gone through... his body was just worn out. Nope.

January 19th - evening. He was still as poor as he was in the morning. Things weren't getting better. Why weren't things getting better? I was still hopeful, but constantly crying.

January 20th, morning. We were told to go see Daddy because he wasn't doing any better, still. I was physically ill at this point and could not eat, sleep, nothing. I hated being in this position. My father dying when I needed him the most.

January 20th, evening. We stayed at the hospital as late as we could. It was going to be a long night, and Momma wanted us to go home so we could sleep. I said my goodbyes to Daddy and told him I'd see him tomorrow and begged him to wake up. My begging didn't work.

January 21st, early morning. 5:00 AM. Momma comes to wake me up to say that the doctor needed to speak to me. Why me? I had to make the decision to pull my Daddy off the monitors because I was next of kin. At 19 years old, I had to decide whether to keep my Daddy around, or let him rest in peace. We decided, as a family, that it was time. He wasn't getting any better, his chances of waking up before his organs began to shut down were slim to none. 8:41 AM, Daddy passed on to heaven to be with my both of my grandpas, and his father, too.

January 21st, morning. I went down to the hospital with Momma to sign paperwork to be able to take his things he brought with him to the hospital. His shoes, wallet, clothes, and that's about it. We asked the doctor what happened, so he explained. When they went in to put the stint in, Daddy's lungs were TERRIBLE. Mind you, he was a smoker, a heavy one at that. The doctor did not know this before putting the stint in, though, so he had to proceed with the procedure and work on Daddy to make sure his arteries were cleared so blood could flow. When they closed him back up, they realized that it was also his pancreas that was in trouble. Not his heart, not his blood, his pancreas. WHAT? This had never been mentioned before now and I didn't want to believe it. I just wanted to know why they could not save my daddy and give him another chance. But, his bad habits caught up to him...

So, my father died from Pancreatic Cancer on January 21st, 2010.

Daddy was my hero, my best friend, and my rock. He was the man that could make the worst situation turn into the best. He was my coach, my shoulder to lean on, my person to call at 4 AM when things were not okay. He was the one to visit when I was bored, play games with on the computer competitively (I always won), and the one to give me life besides Momma.

Since Daddy's passing, there have been HUGE changes in my life. I have walked out of this horrific event a stronger, more mature person than I would have been had it not happened. I joined a sorority where I had the support of fantastic women each and every step of the way. I graduated college with my Bachelor of Science in Education this past year. I started my Masters degree this summer. I began working this fall. Without his dedication and parenting (along with Momma's), I absolutely would not be where I am right now.

Daddy, you will always be in my heart. Even though I cannot hear you, I can feel you. You're here in everything that I do, watching over me. And, I know you're up in heaven playin' cards or Mafia Wars like you did down here. I am so thankful to have you to call as my daddy. Missing you always and love you to pieces <3

Fall Favorites Swap Reveal!

Another Fall Favorites Swap with the hosts Holly from A Cajun Belle, Melanie from Fashionably Forty, and J from An Unstyled Life! This Fall Favorites Swap was similar to the other, where we got to know our partners and then send them some fall themed things - it could have been nail polish, pumpkin something, candles, scarves, pictures, ANYTHING that was fall related.

Well, I got partnered up with the amazing Micah, who blogs over at Unabashedly Me. First off, let me tell you that this woman is talented. And I mean TALENTED. She is a writer and has 3 books that have been published. I'm making it a goal of mine to read them by the time the year is over. AKA by December 31st. Anyways, she's so sweet and fun and caring and she sent me the most amazing things in relation to fall.

(Don't mind Jess... he wanted to be in the picture, too!)

Micah sent me some Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla coffee (MMMMM), Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin lotion/body scrub, and two of my fav smelling candles - leaves & pumpkin cupcake. YUM.

She also sent me a pumpkin plate that broke... STINKIN' POST OFFICE!! And a bag of candy.... which I ate. I know, I know... couldn't help myself! I needed chocolate and that's what she sent so it was PERFECT.

Micah, thank you SOOO much. You are an amazing swap partner and an amazing person in all. Thank you for everything!!

As always, if you're EVER asked to do a swap or have the opportunity.. do it. You never know who you'll meet or connect with.

Have a good day, y'all!

5 for Five Linky!

5 for Five linky time! Linking up again with Jenn & Jessica.

Last week... I met only half of my goals - literally HALF. I can explain.... :) (Red goals - did NOT meet, green goals - DID meet.)

1. Write my prospectus for my Masters program.
I did it!! Wasn't until Friday... but I did it.

2. Pack up the boxes from the "green room" and take them over to my unit so everything is in one place for our move.
Okay, I halved this one! I packed everything up.. just never made it over to my unit.

3. Organize my Pinterest boards.
Hah......

4. Walk once a day for 30 minutes.
No way, José. I failed BIG TIME on this one. I didn't walk ONCE. We'll try again this week.

5. Finish homework up through next Sunday (Oct 28).
Woohoo! I did this! Except.. one of my professors assigned something today that's due Sunday. Soo... technically, I did it!

If you REALLY look, I technically did 2.5 out of 5 goals... so 50%. Not good. SO let's hope for a better week this week! Here's my goals!

1. Walk once a day for 15 minutes.
If I start smaller, maybe it'll be easier??

2. Organize MOST of my Pinterest boards.
I've got to get this done so all my educational stuff is organized, recipes are organized, and so forth! Will be easier when I want to find "that one idea."

3. Research things about mutual funds so I know what I want to sign up for when I go meet with an analyst.
I really need to start saving for my retirement NOW so I'm set THEN. Granted, I'm 22, but I want to start ASAP.

4. Create at LEAST 5 different new products for my TeachersPayTeachers (TPT) store.
I love love love making new resources for others to use in their own classrooms. Nothing makes me more excited than my products being used by students to learn! Pretty cool feeling so I need to continue working on making different things - at least 5 (I'm down 2 already!!).

5. Finish my school work through November 11th.
I want to make sure all my work is finished before we move so I can have time to unpack and get settled in without worrying about work! So, this week, I'm tackling all work that's due November 11th and then next week will be reserved for work through November 25th! I'm on a roll :)

What are you planning to accomplish this week? I'd love to hear about it! Make up a post of your 5 goals and then go link up with Jenn & Jessica!

Have a good day, y'all!

You've Been BOO'd! (A Different Linky!)

{Click the picture above to be taken to the linky!}

Have I ever told y'all how much I love the blogging community? No? Well, I LOVE IT. There are some amazing people out there with some awesome ideas. There's another Boo type linky floating around the bloggy world that I was "tagged" in by the lovely Julia from Lattes & Laughter. She is one of the sweetest out there, too! Make sure you head on over to her blog & leave her some love... I promise you'll love her & her blog just as much as I do!

Lattes & Laughter

The rules of the game go as follows:

Choose a fellow blogger that has MORE followers than you, choose a fellow blogger that has about the SAME followers as you, and choose a fellow blogger that has LESS followers than you. Once you  have done that, make sure to leave them some "treats" by offering them something from your store.

So, here's my three :)

Lisa blogs over at Learning is Something to Treasure and has the CUTEST pirate themed blog. I dunno how many times I've said this but Lisa is my self-appointed mentor. She has been a HUGE help to me in this blogging journey and I am so happy to have met her. Lisa has some of the best resources for teachers in her TPT store. For instance, take her Kids of Character pack. What a great pack to teach the different characteristics of great people. She's also created two relatively new resources called Creepy Crawly Spiders: A Common Core Aligned Unit on Spiders and her Going Batty: A Common Core Aligned Math and Literacy Unit. Now, I know Halloween is coming up and the kiddos are getting excited... but these are two GREAT units to tie in with the holidays that are educational yet fun. Lisa is an amazing woman so make sure you check out both her blog & her TPT store. You'll love her as much as I do!

Katie & Lisen blog over at Second Grade Smartypants. These gals have been there for me since I first started and I absolutely ADORE them. They are amazing supporters, great friends, and have fantastic resources for teachers. Make sure to check out their TPT store, ESPECIALLY their Writing Journal for the Year pack, Inference Island pack, and the Spooky Halloween Math Centers and Literacy Centers. These are just a few of my favs. Make sure you check ALL of their resources out and their blog :)

curiousfirsties.blogspot.com

Maria & Em blog over at Curious Firsties. I actually got to meet these two FANTASTIC ladies at the Ohio Blogger Meet-Up. They are two of the sweetest girls and I am so, so happy to have been able to be connected to them. Maria & Em are working on getting a TPT store started, but just because they don't have one doesn't mean they don't have some AMAZING resources. Take their Small Moments Rubric for example. What a fantastic resource when working on writing. They also have a Creations freebie to give students a chance to focus on their future work. Finally, they've created something to work on labeling pigs for the book Olivia. Check that out here. These gals have MUCH more on their blog, so make sure you stop by & say hello to these fantastic ladies!

Ladies - all five of you PLEASE go to my TPT store & let me know what you'd love to have and I'll send it on your way! Love you all to pieces!!

Have a good day, y'all!
